Presenters: Dr. Kirk Strosahl and Dr. Patti Robinson

  

Dr. Kirk Strosahl and Dr. Patti Robinson are world-renowned ACT experts who contributed to the original model’s development (Dr. Strosahl is a co-founder of the method, along with Steven C. Hayes and Kelly Wilson). Together, they co-founded FACT to make the principles of psychological flexibility more impactful in brief intervention settings.

In addition to providing training and consultation across the globe, they have authored some of the most influential books in the ACT community, including Brief Interventions for Radical Change: Principles and Practice of Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Real Behavior Change in Primary Care: Improving Outcomes and Increasing Job Satisfaction, and Inside This Moment: A Clinician’s Guide to Promoting Radical Change in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

They teach FACT to mental health practitioners and healthcare professionals all over the world and have been instrumental in improving mass-scale mental health systems in places like Sweden and New Zealand.

 

PROGRAM

Module 1: The Contextual Interview

  • Introduction to the FACT model and its pillars 
  •  Review the 8 steps of initial sessions, focusing on the first 5 steps  
  • Watch role-play videos and create a personalized interview script 

Module 2: Case Conceptualization

  • Utilize a checklist and tools like the Four Square Tool and Pillars Assessment Tool  
  • Conduct case conceptualization role-plays  
  • Develop new perspectives for client problems and offer behavior change options  

Module 3: Intervention

  • Learn the 7th step of initial sessions, including behavior experiments  
  • Deep dive into the three pillars with role-play illustrations  
  • Use the Pillars Intervention Guide and review the final step of initial sessions  

Module 4: Follow-up Sessions 

  • Understand the flow and differences of FACT follow-up sessions  
  • Watch follow-up visit examples, including complex cases  
  • Strategies for handling non-compliance and becoming an effective FACT therapist  

Module 5: Metaphors

  • Use metaphors to address mental rules and clarify client values  
  • Apply physical metaphors and see tools like the Bull’s-eye and Life Path in action  

Module 6: Complex Cases  

  • Define and approach complex cases, including handling suicidal ideation  
  • Recognize therapist burnout and strategies for resilience  
  • Learn how to conclude client work effectively
