About
Bio: I am a Registered Psychologist (CPBC #1003), having worked in British Columbia for over 30 years. I have had a long-time interest and passion involving the treatment and assessment of individuals with chronic pain and related anxiety and mood disorders. I am equally comfortable treating those with a variety of different difficulties.
I am informed by a bio-psycho-social understanding of physical and psychological health. My treatment approach is collaborative, and evidence based. Primary treatment modalities include CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). In-session treatment is supplemented by links to multiple self-help and educational online resources. Different client strengths, weaknesses, capabilities, and preferences are recognized: treatment is individualized. Individual, couple, family, and group approaches are accommodated.
I see every client as unique, requiring an individualized/personalized approach. While approaches must be individualized, therapeutic experiences are best set within the framework of tried-and-true, evidence-based practice. Equally or more important is the therapeutic relationship that must be created - one that reflects deep understanding, trust, and collaboration. This/these are my goals in helping others.
The majority of my work is conducted by secure videoconferencing or phone. As such, I am able to assist, regardless of where one lives in BC. For more information or to book an appointment, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone (604-241-7317) or by email (pjoy@telus.net). I am often easier to reach by email. Thanks, PWJ.
