In Memoriam
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear colleague and Board member, Dr. David Mensink. A devoted psychologist, mentor, and leader, David dedicated his life to the field of psychology, always striving to give back through his experience, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to both individuals and the broader community. His influence extended far beyond his clients, impacting colleagues, students, and organizations across Canada.
David was a passionate advocate for the profession, serving in leadership roles with both the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA) and the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS). In BC, he volunteered as BCPA President, Past President, and Board Member at Large, as well as chairing the Advocacy Committee and contributing to the Membership and Continuing Education Committees. His contributions were recognized in 2023 when he received BCPA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He also dedicated time to his community through Christ Church Cathedral of Victoria, serving on its Church Council and Overcoming Addictions Committee. Since 2018, he was a valued associate at Tina Leist & Associates in Victoria in a group practice.
Before moving to British Columbia, David spent 30 years at Dalhousie University’s Counselling and Psychological Services, where he was deeply involved in faculty and professional organizations. He served as APNS President and Past President, contributed to multiple committees, and played an active role in the Dalhousie Faculty Association as Treasurer, Chair of the Grievance Committee, and Chair of the Equity Committee. In 2017, he was honoured with the Dedicated Service Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers.
David’s kindness, wisdom, and generosity leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, colleagues, and the many people he supported throughout his career.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria on Saturday, March 15th, at 11:00am. David's family welcomes friends and colleagues who wish to attend.
With warmth,
BCPA Board of Directors
